What makes Venezuela unique from an architectural perspective?
Hello, my name is Soriana Alvarez, I am a student of architecture at the Universidad Simon Bolivar. In this video I will explain several interesting topics that make Venezuela a country attractive from an architectural perspective. Color, light, texture, acoustic, circulation, rhythm and scale are the aspects to be developed in this project. Venezuela is a country full of diversity, where we can find many interesting structures, which contain unique architectural spaces in the world
I hope you like!!!! :)
Color
FLOR DE HANNOVER
The three-tier structure, located in Barquisimeto, Lara state, is one of the most innovative and colorful modern structures of the state. The Flower of Hannover is one of the most attractive and interesting structures of our country. It was designed by the Venezuelan architect Fruto Vivas, entitled "A flower for the World" is also inspired by the national flower, the orchid. After opening emits colored light inside the petals causes a pleasant visual effect. The color allows you to create the illusion of natural petals, so that visitors feel they are visiting a flower.
Lights
AULA MAGNA ( UCV)
The corridors and hallways surrounding the Aula Magna of the UCV are delimited by the translucent enclosure, providing indoor and outdoor projection. This wall is the part that connects two spaces, one covered and one uncovered; besides the light projected through the holes in the wall marks the entrance to the great room. This enclosure provides clarity to the spaces without the need for artificial light
Texture
The castle of Charles Borromeo
This is the image Carlos Borromeo Castle, located in Margarita (Venezuela). This building is made of stone, as it is a very tough and would help define the character of the castle. The purpose of the rough texture is to provoke the onset of force was going to have a castle to protect the coast during the war.
Acoustic:
Usb auditorium
The Auditorium of the University Simon Bolivar is one of the few interesting buildings whose architecture breaks the mold of parallelepipeds with red roofs. This complex has five separate halls distributed as if they were the five internal triangles form a pentagon. The position of the chairs inside helps to have good visibility from anywhere. Also the shape of the cover allows the projection of the acoustics during the shows.
Rhythm
The Palace of Academies (Caracas)
In this picture, the windows, for example, is constantly repeated in the entire facade of the Palace of Academies (Caracas, Venezuela), the repetition of forms produce an infinite visual tour. The shapes of the windows and the pace of some architectural elements disclosed the classic style and monumental character of the palace.
Vertical & horizontal circulation
Circulation is one of the most important things in a project. For example; we have the image of the covered corridors of the Central University of Venezuela, the horizontal circulation in this case is more important than vertical movement, because college is made for walking horizontally to all its buildings
However, there are buildings that need a vertical circulation module, since it has many floors, and which help connect one floor to another. For example, we have this image of the vertical circulation of the Building of sanitary engineering at the University
Space & scale
Towers of Silence
A few days ago I took some pictures of the towers of silence. These towers are a landmark for the capital. In these pictures, we see that the human scale is a reference to highlight the size of buildings. The two volumes are raised on a square that serves as a supplier to several avenues of Caracas and at a bus terminal located on the bottom. It is also noted that the towers have more proportion than the surrounding context. These ratios help make a line of symmetry that divides the city into two. This axis of symmetry is not only visual, as is indicated by Avenue Bolivar crossing below the towers. The CSB has an infinite number of uses that address the needs of people living in the capital
After having seen how each of the 7 topics is developed in this country, colors, lights, textures, sound, rhythm, vertical and horizontal circulation, and space and scale, I can say that Venezuela is a country unique in architecture. It is interesting to see how we can find various types of circulation in one place, plus there are buildings that are composed of several topics, giving visitors unique and pleasant spaces within cities. This project is very useful to show the world that Venezuela has it all, has nothing to envy any country. The spirit of its people, the perfect climate, beautiful scenery, and interesting architecture, puts the pride of all Venezuelan high, and makes you want to show this as the only country in the world.
